I'm so very sorry about the looong delay, but I've had so many problems I have hardly had time to sit and type, but not that I have 15 minutes Here I am to Pronounce the winner, and the winner is TitanicExprt....congrats!!!!!
Construction of the Titanic 1)Although the white star liner was a british company it was owned by wealthy american financier JP morgan's trust International mercantile Marine.It was his money that bankrolled Pirrie and Ismay's dream of building three enormous ships. 2)over 53,000 tons (53,800t) 3)March 31,1909. 4)The average worker earned about 2 pounds sterling ($10) a week.The average wage at the time was 1 or 2 pounds sterling a week. 5)Each of the 4 oval shaped funnels adveraged 63 feet (19m)high,19 feet (6m) wide and 24 1/2 feet (7m) long.Big enough to drive 2 trains through! Titanic's Crew 1)after sunrise at 5:18AM on April 10 1912 the first members of the crew began to board.All of the officers except for captain smith had already spent the night on board. 2)St sbout 7:00AM he said goodbye to his wife Eleanor and his 12 year old daughter Helen.Took a taxi from his Southampton home to the White Star Dock.He climbed up the gangway at 7:30AM. 3)1,250 pounds sterling ($6,250) a year plus a 200 pound sterling ($1,000) bonus for every ship he captained that didn't have a accident. 4)Yes.Some were only 14 or 15.They worked as bellboys carrying luggage,pageboys running errands and delivering telegrams,and liftboys running the elevators. 5)892 crew members were listed on Titanic's crew list. |
