You're not an idiot. It depends how you define pieces or major sections of debris. There's lots of wreckage. You have the main stern section, and the main bow section; the 'third piece' is a double bottom section from the area of the break that extended the width of the ship. Strictly speaking, though, even the 'third piece' can be debated as this section of the double bottom is (I understand) partly or wholly fractured into two. So you could regard Titanic as in two large pieces, or more. Best wishes, Mark. |

Much of that information came from my reading of reports into the 2005 expedition, along with correspondence with someone I know who was involved. Hopefully I have presented it correctly. I agree that the Lynch-Marschall book is a 'must have'; as is Geoffrey Marcus' 'The Maiden Voyage' (published in 1969 and reprinted for years afterwards) and probably the Eaton & Haas 'Triumph & Tragedy.' I would recommend my own, but that's more to do with Olympic and Britannic -- and I hate it when authors do that. (Says he the hypocrite! ) Best wishes, Mark. |

thanks. You write about the titanic? what did ya write? It's not recommending if I ask. I read one book by Charles Pellegrino called Ghosts of the Titanic that was pretty good. I learned some stuff that I didn't know before, like that someone was robbing the ship while it was going down and a funny story about a baker that was drunk was one of the last ones to get off the ship. well, sorta funny.

I guess.
I did 'The "Olympic" Class Ships: Olympic, Titanic & Britannic,' 'RMS Olympic: Titanic's Sister,' 'RMS Majestic: The "Magic Stick",' and an unrelated poetry book. Best wishes, Mark. |

Hellen, if you want a good book on the science and state of the wrecksite, try reading a book called Ghosts of the Titanic by Charles Pellegrino (Not to be confused with Ghosts of the Abyss, although that is a good book too).
Anyway, Charles Pellegrino is an underwather anthropologist and Nasa engineer who went along with several expeditions including the one with Dr. Ballard, and one with James Cameron. His book is one of the most gripping, and thought provoking piece I have read and it really goes in depth about the wrecksite, giving new theories about what forces went on that night. He even gives a theory that some human remains may still survive in the chemical "anoxic beds" near the stern section. Great Reading!!! |
